Research Accomplishments

Yanyao Jiang's research work has been concentrated on mechanical behavior of materials and structures. Particularly, he has made significant contributions in cyclic plasticity, multiaxial fatigue, rolling contact, and self-loosening of bolted joints.

  1. Development of fatigue life prediction approach that considers both crack initiation and crack propagation,
  2. Exploration the first time of new inhomogeneous cyclic plasticity deformation phenomenon,
  3. Development of a new and robust cyclic plasticity model that has been well recognized over the world,
  4. Development of a new cyclic plasticity model for single crystals,
  5. Experimental exploration and theoretical modeling of cyclic hardening material behavior,
  6. Experimental exploration and theoretical modeling of nonproportional hardening material behavior,
  7. Critical evaluation of existing plasticity models theoretically and with benchmark experiments,
  8. Experimental exploration of the relationship between the cyclic plastic deformation behavior and the corresponding microstructural characteristics,
  9. Development of a new method for elastic-plastic rolling contact stress analysis,
  10. Elastic-plastic finite element stress analysis of rolling contact,
  11. Failure modeling of rolling contact with consideration of both fatigue and ratcheting,
  12. Development of a general and robust multiaxial fatigue criterion integrating cyclic plasticity and fatigue damage,
  13. Exploration of the mechanisms of self-loosening of bolted joints through experimentation and theoretical modeling.
